Kendra Linne Walks for Multiple Sclerosis

Kendra Linne educates herself about multiple sclerosis after finding out about a friend who was diagnosed.

When Kendra Linne’s schedule opens up and she has a bit of down-time to fill, she enjoys walking or running for organizations that research various diseases or issues. Most recently, Kendra Linne organized a small group of friends to walk for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Kendra Linne had first really heard about the disease from a close friend who was starting a battery of tests because of various health issues.

Kendra Linne was both surprised and saddened to hear how much is still unknown about the disease. Her friend, once diagnosed, would basically spend the rest of her life learning how to live with the disease and hopefully it would not worsen over time. Kendra Linne suddenly felt helpless and wanted to do something. She began researching the society and decided to raise some money to participate in a walk.

“I know that was I’m doing is such a small contribution in the grand scheme of things. However, I feel like there is so much attention on breast cancer and other diseases that MS may be a bit behind on their research due to less support. I am definitely keeping the MS Society walks on my list of annual walks so that I can give a little bit,” states Kendra Linne.

After doing some more reading on the disease, Kendra Linne suggested to her friend, who also lives in Florida, to continue to spend time in the sun. There is still not concrete proof, but it seems that people who live closer to the equator, who have more exposure to sunlight (Vitamin D) are less likely to develop the disease. Kendra Linne feels that while it may not cure what has already begun in her friend’s body, perhaps it will stop the development.

“Kendra Linne has been so supportive of me and my health issues. Many people actually shy away from talking about it with me because it makes them uncomfortable. I feel it may be because there is not a lot of information and it’s not like they can say, ‘well you’ll get your treatment and hopefully you will get better.’ There really is no treatment, but I am going to take Kendra Linne’s advice and worship the sun,” says Kendra Linne’s friend.
