As the General Manager of SESCO, an electric distributor and subsidiary of the company Sonepar, John McCullough of Oakville is always looking for ways to improve his management skills, and to this end he recently completed a course in “Management by Objectives.” John McCullough of Oakville aims to use the skills he gained through this September 2013 course to grow SESCO further as a major electric distributor and help his employees develop their own leadership skills.
John McCullough of Oakville has fully embraced the skills taught in “Management by Objectives.” “At SESCO we already hold the record for the most growth by an independent distributor in Ontario,” he notes. “That means I have to set the bar even higher, set objectives that are obtainable for my employees, but that will require some work. I think ‘striving’ is the best word for what we should be doing. That’s what I learned in this course,” explains John McCullough.
Another reason that John McCullough of Oakville pursued this course in “Management by Objectives” is because he believes in the importance of continuing education. A 1981 graduate of the University of Toronto, John McCullough of Oakville knows that he built his career on a strong educational foundation, and that he can only move it further through additional courses and seminars. “One of the reasons I belong to two professional organizations – the Ontario Electric League and Electro-fed Canada – is that these types of organizations really encourage furthering your education and leadership training. In fact, they often offer courses themselves that are open to members,” says John McCullough.
By pushing his employees and encouraging them to strive for better and greater heights, John McCullough of Oakville knows that he is building leaders among his employees. “These are the skills that will help them rise up through the ranks,” he explains. “These are the habits I developed as a young employee, and they are the same skills that serve me now.” Under the motivating and determined leadership of John McCullough of Oakville, SESCO seems bound for further growth in the years to come, and will surely stand out among its competitors.
