Jessica Ann Wachel has always had a big heart for her local community, and that is recently evidenced by her volunteering time to teach complimentary dance lessons to children. Jessica Ann Wachel, with the help of some friends, put on a dance clinic in San Marco, TX for local children.

Jessica Ann Wachel grew up very involved in competitive dancing and performing. She has been a part of a variety of different groups and teams, but really focused on drill team in high school. Jessica Ann Wachel graduated from La Porte High School in La Porte, Texas in 2009, where she held different leadership positions on the drill team. She was a line member for two years, before becoming Jr. Lieutenant for a year and Captain for another.

“I learned a lot from other people when I was growing up, and I want everyone to have that opportunity. Sometimes parents can’t afford, or don’t have time, to take their kids to actual dance lessons. We figured it would be cool to offer a free, convenient chance for some kids to get dance lessons,” said Jessica Ann Wachel.

The lessons were extremely informal and didn’t focus on any one particular style. Teachers moved around from child to child, helping each learn whatever style they wanted. Jessica Ann Wachel was able to help a few kids interested in drill team.

“A couple of the kids had siblings on drill team, or knew someone who had been on drill team, so I was able to help them out a lot. I think that was the neatest part, since that is something I’m passionate about,” Jessica Ann Wachel said.

Because the event was such a success, Jessica Ann Wachel is looking into the idea of holding more lessons. She would like to make it an annual or semi-annual event.

“I think we would like to do it more often, and maybe advertise it a little more next time. We just used word of mouth this year, and we had a good number show up. I’m going to talk with some more people before doing it again,” said Jessica Ann Wachel.
