Jessica Ann Wachel recently returned to the Springtown Villa retirement community she once volunteered at. She came back to see some of the friends she made while helping out, friends she has kept up with over the last couple of years. Jessica Ann Wachel was graciously received and everyone enjoyed her visit.

Springtown Villa is an independent living community located on Springtown Way in San Marcos, Texas. Part of the independent living includes retirement communities and apartment rentals for seniors. Residents enjoy Springtown Villa for its great facilities, excellent program offerings, and many social activities.

In 2011, Jessica Ann Wachel spent time volunteering at the retirement community. She enjoyed the chance to give back to her community, help people in need, and build relationships with the residents. Jessica Ann Wachel helped in a variety of different ways, and learned much from her experience.

“Volunteering at Springtown taught me a lot. I learned how to interact with people who are different than me. I think that was the biggest thing,” said Jessica Ann Wachel. “I really didn’t have anything in common with the seniors that lived there, but I was able to put that aside and just listen and learn from them. I definitely made some friends there,” Jessica Ann Wachel continued.

Jessica Ann Wachel had been wanting to return to Springtown Villa for the last couple of years, but hadn’t yet gotten the chance. Jessica Ann Wachel is busy being a full time student at Texas State University.

“I kept thinking I would go back, but things seemed to keep coming up. Eventually I just said ‘enough,’ and made time to visit,” said Jessica Ann Wachel. “I’m so glad I did.”

During Jessica Ann Wachel’s visit, she spent time talking with friends, playing games with the residents, and catching up with other volunteers. Everyone was happy to see her, and it made her miss volunteering at Springtown.

“It made me want to come back. I’m busy with work and school all the time, but I think everyone should take time to give back to their community. I’ll have to make time to volunteer; I enjoy it too much not to,” Jessica Ann Wachel said.
