As the owner of Houma’s renowned HTV, Martin Folse is proud of the work and efforts that have gone into making the television station a success. He is an alumnus of Nicholls State University, where he graduated with a degree in Mass Communication (broadcast and print journalism concentration).
Folse’s education in mass communication started at the region's other top university, Louisiana State, but after LSU lost its accreditation in journalism (at the time), he chose Nicholls State. Looking back at the transfer, Folse admits that it may have been the best decision he made at the time.
From the jump, Martin Folse displayed a love for television and print journalism that was unmatched. The journalism classes were always his favorite, as he was able to interact with several professors who shaped his attitude and knowledge. He acknowledges the help former professor Bob Blazier and Rob Simeral had in his career. Indeed, the professors were so high on Folse; the late Blazier chose him as the most accomplished technical student in the class of 1981.
If it wasn't shining as a journalism student, Folse was involved in the school track team. Athletically gifted, he shone in football and track and field during his high school years. He translated some of that talent in college and was a member of the first track team. When he wasn't competing, Folse could be spotted behind the sideline cameras filming footage for the live broadcast of the athletic event.
Upon graduation, Martin Folse founded Folse Productions, a small productions company that came up with documentaries on local issues. In 1984, he produced a full-length motion picture that he sold to New World Pictures and Shapiro Entertainment. The following year, he launched HTV10, a move that propelled him into the limelight of regional programming.
The station now reaches people in more than ten parishes, has interviewed three sitting presidents and every sitting governor of Louisiana since 1985. In the late 90's, the station was the only one in America to interview a woman, Nancy Fowler, during the Blessed Mother Apparitions.
