In 2013, Gizem Donmez celebrates her two year anniversary with the Society for Neuroscience, a group of more than 42,000 scientists across the world.

This year Gizem Donmez will celebrate her second anniversary as a member of the Society for Neuroscience. The society was founded in 1969, and currently has 42,576 members. The goal of the organization is to advance the understanding of the brain and nervous systems, something they have been successfully doing for more than four decades.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Society for Neuroscience advances understanding of neuroscience, provides developmental activities, promotes general education and knowledge, and informs legislators of the importance of research funding in neuroscience. Gizem Donmez joined because she has a passion for each of these key components, especially that of promoting general education and knowledge to the public.

Gizem Donmez joined the society upon finishing her postdoctoral fellowship at MIT, just one of many impressive features on her resume. She holds a B.S., Msc, and PhD in various types of biology and chemistry. Currently, Gizem Donmez is the Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Tufts University.

The big event of the year for the society is its Annual Meeting. This year’s meeting, held in San Diego from November 9-13, will be the 43rd of its kind. Essentially it is the culmination of the year for the world of neuroscience. People from all over the world come to speak, they have different attractions, and networking opportunities abound with neuroscientists attending from around the world.
