It may have been years in the making, but the time has finally come. Gentry Viers remembers the last time the Kansas City Royals were in the World Series. He was just five years old, but by that time he knew the game well and also could recite some of the stats pinned to his most favorite team. He and his family went to one of the games, and it was a moment that changed Gentry Viers’ life forever. His appreciation for the sport was amplified to a whole new level, as well as a loyalty to his favorite team.

The team was playing against the St. Louis Cardinals at the time, where Gentry Viers also developed his sense of rivalry against his neighbor Missouri team. It was Game 6, and the Royals were down in the series by quite a bit. They fought hard through that game, and ended up winning and shifting the momentum of the entire series. It may not have been the game that ended the series, but young Gentry were much more excited about being present to witness the turnaround of that series that led to a championship title for the Royals.

He maintained his loyalty for his favorite tem for decades to come, and at times dealt with some serious rough patches. The Royals did not have a glorious next few decades; and aside from the acquisition of some star players, the team could not get it together enough to get back into the World Series. But this year, they are strong. One of their rotating pitchers, Yordano Ventura, throws some of the fastest fastballs that the sport has ever seen. Not only that, but he is swift on the defensive end and can make a play in the diamond with speed and confidence. That is just one player, though; the entire roster is stacked with talent that has helped get them to the World Series.

Their dreams could have been cut short by a bad game 6, but the opposite in fact happened. The Royals blew out the Giants on their home field, making for another epic game 6 momentum booster. Gentry Viers is excited for tonight’s performance and can’t wait to see his team take another one home.
