Gagandeep Singh: Seizing the Opportunity as a Salesperson

Gagandeep Singh, an individual with remarkable business acumen and experience at a young age, reveals qualities that he deems every salesperson should have.

Gagandeep Singh is a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit who is currently pursuing his studies at Hofstra University in New York. He runs a scaffolding company (which he would like to grow into a city contractor) and was one of Optimum Nutrition's top promoters during his time with the company. He is well-aware of the importance of the face to face side of doing business. Due to his track record, we asked him to delineate qualities that he looks for in a successful salesperson.

First, says Gagandeep Singh, a salesperson must have a radiant attitude. They are the first impression that a customer or client has of the business they are visiting. No customer or client wants to be met by a representative who seems to be rude, tired, or annoyed. It is one of the biggest turn offs for a potential customer or client and truly reflects poorly upon the entire establishment. Because of all these factors, it is essential for a salesperson to make the customer or client feel welcome and convey a sense of excitement and gratitude for their potential business.

Second, says Gagandeep Singh, a salesperson must be fully knowledgable of the products and services offered by the business they are representing. Another big turnoff for a potential customer or client is a salesperson who fumbles with the answers to their questions or continually has to ask their superior for information. Even worse, is when a salesperson leaves a question unacknowledged or answers it vaguely. Nothing could more effectively deter a customer or client from making a purchase! So, it is quite plain to see that a salesperson must be knowledgable of the products and services they are selling.

Lastly, it is quite important that a salesperson demonstrate positive body behavior if they wish to be successful. This means simple things such as good posture, a firm handshake, a genuine smile, and constant eye contact. If you follow these simple steps, says Gagandeep Singh, you will see that potential customers and clients will gravitate towards you more naturally and that your business superiors will take notice.
