For the past ten years, Fred J. Dohring has been a regular volunteer with the PGA tour, primarily working as a walking scorekeeper

Fred J. Dohring is proud to celebrate ten years of volunteer work with the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. The PGA is a highly regarded golfing organization that runs the majority of the big golf tournaments in the United States. As a volunteer with the PGA, Fred J. Dohring has had the opportunity to work as a walking scorekeeper. “As a walking scorekeeper I get to walk some of the finest courses in the world alongside some of the greatest players in golf today,” said Fred J. Dohring. “I may be volunteering when I work with the PGA, but it’s truly an exciting experience to be out on the courses during various tournaments.”

Over his ten years of volunteering, Fred J. Dohring has risen through the ranks, gaining access to some of the highest profile golf events in the world. Fred J. Dohring has volunteered on the PGA Tour, at the Champions Tour, as well as at the Legends Tour. “Volunteering at the Champions Tour was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” Fred J. Dohring noted. “I got to walk with and watch Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw, and Raymond Floyd – quite an amazing batch of golfers!” At the Legends Tour, in November of 2013, Fred J. Dohring was fortunate enough to walk with Hall of Famer Pat Bradley.

Fred J. Dohring volunteers with the PGA for two or three events a year, depending on need and location. “I don’t mind traveling to volunteer at PGA events,” said Fred J. Dohring. “In fact, I really appreciate the chance to see golf courses in other parts of the country. I can visit courses in Florida or Georgia whenever I want, but there are plenty of other impressive courses that I’d love to spend some time at.”

After ten years of volunteering with the PGA, Fred J. Dohring has no intention of stopping any time soon. Indeed, he intends to continue volunteering at PGA events for as long as his body will let him. “As a walking scorer, it is not untypical to walk six to seven miles for each round of golf, which after a four day tournament this equates to a total of over 25 miles. But, it is a very enjoyable time and I usually forget about the miles logged. Besides, there are still some great golfers that I’m hoping to keep score for,” said Fred J. Dohring.
