Former Major General Michael Harrison says he can leverage his military experience into the corporate world

Former Major General Michael Harrison has always had the ability to lead and influence people, and to bring out their best. And as he enters the private sector for the first time in more than thirty years, he says that he has the background it takes to be an outstanding Executive Coach.

Executive Coaches are increasingly common in major firms, as companies try to ease the transition of those who have climbed the corporate ladder into positions in management. A typical Executive Coach focuses on issues that come with managing people, and that is something that Former Major General Michael Harrison has excelled in during his long career in the military. "I learned the value of both responsibility and accountability," he says. "My value to any organization is that I know firsthand how to develop a vision, gain buy-in from the organization, and lead them to achieve that vision through shared effort."

Former Major General Michael Harrison demonstrated his abilities as one of the senior leaders responsible for supporting the equipping and training effort for members of the Afghan National Army in 2006 and 2007. He cited the example of an Afghan National Army battalion he observed that undertook what he called a significant movement from the Northern part of Afghanistan to the southern part. "This movement was planned exclusively by their leaders, and by one of the Afghan National Army Corps, and executed by them," Former Major General Michael Harrison explained. "It was conducted simultaneously via air, using Afghan National Army aircraft, as well as motor road march. And it was done superbly, and done in a short period of time. I think there are quite a few members of the coalition that would tell you, a couple of years ago that particular movement under combat conditions probably would not have been able to have been planned and conducted exclusively by members of that particular Corps by themselves."

Executive coaching, as Former Major General Michael Harrison knows, has become part of the mainstream in corporate life, and is a role that he is well equipped to assume. He cites, as a parallel, the number of coaches associated with any NFL team, which is one of his favorite spectator sports. Virtually every position has its own coach that knows the nuance of how to play that position. As he knows, it is not so different in corporate America.
