Eric Hauglum is a promising young man who has already accomplished much

Eric Hauglum is an ambitious young professional man who is culturally rounded, and is involved in many things. He is focused enough to have attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest advancement available in scouting. Friends and family know Eric Hauglum as responsible, smart, trust worthy and a hard worker.

Eric Hauglum has performed many hours of community service. He has cleaned up numerous Boy Scout campgrounds and participated in Scouting for Food and in the Eagle project at Dash Point State Park, Washington. Eric Hauglum has also given his time at the Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn, Washington, where he cleaned grave markers and placed flags for veterans as part of a Memorial Day service. He has also helped other scouts with their Eagle projects, been a volunteer in a soup kitchen, and helped the Cub Scout organization as a Boy Scout. Through his membership in the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, Eric Hauglum has also volunteered at Orphan Acres, an Equine Rescue, Rehabilitation & Sanctuary. He also volunteered through his own at the Whitman County Humane Society.

The Boy Scout slogan is, “Do a good turn daily.” That is one of the reasons why Eric Hauglum performed so much community service. But community service is also one of the requirements for attaining the Eagle Scout rank. To become an Eagle, Boy Scouts must also meet the requirements and advance through the organization’s lesser ranks, from the lowest, Tenderfoot, through First Class, Star, and Life. Along the way, a Scout must earn twenty-one merit badges. Some of these are requirements while others are electives. Required merit badges include First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship in the World. There are also various fitness merit badges, including personal fitness, and cycling, hiking, or swimming.

Boy Scouts who, like Eric Hauglum, aspire to the rank of Eagle must also serve for at least six months in a leadership position within their Boy Scout troop for each of the scouting ranks. They must take part in a Scoutmaster conference, and finally, must successfully complete an Eagle Scout Board of Review.

That Eric Hauglum completed these requirements is not surprising to those who know him. They all recognize Eric Hauglum as a young man of enormous potential, and are confident he will succeed in whatever he ultimately chooses to do in life.
