Dr. Theodora Stolz hits twenty five years and counting as a psychologist

Dr. Theodora Stolz started out in the field of psychology twenty five years ago. In that time she has seen many patients and helped many people with their goals and issues. It all goes back to 1989 when got her Ph. D. from Hofstra University. She had just published her thesis called Cognitive Factors in Pathological Gambling. This well-cited thesis has been referenced in a number of studies since ten. One notable study was a University of Nevada, Las Vegas work that looked at the levels of satisfaction in gamblers and casino patrons. It was a labor of love because her personal life was in a very pivotal state at the time. She was married and her husband was afflicted with a major gambling problem. Witnessing this addiction firsthand, Stolz was inspired to uncover the layers of causality behind the behaviors. From this very tragic situation, her epic thesis started her career off on a high note.

From there, she has been and continues to be in tune with the many ways that patients lose their ability to resist urges and give up their mental strength. She feels that too often especially in today’s society people count on medicines and prescription drugs to deal with things. That is just trading one behavior for another in a lot of cases and completely untenable. To those ends, she prescribes a unique mix of therapy elements that to some might seem eclectic. She is a self-described Bohemian and if you could peek into one of her sessions you would see that she incorporates far more than a pen, pad and couch to do her work. She integrates music, animals, candles, singing, dancing, and much more into her sessions. The goal of course is to get people talking about their issue, discovering more about themselves, and letting their defenses down. It is often a matter of self-reflection and awareness that brings most people to the answer that they seek and she is more than willing to get people to that point by any means possible. Dr. Theodora Stolz believes in the unity of body and mind and after twenty five years, feels that she has the ultimate repertoire to bring all these things together effectively for each person that comes to see her.
