Treating patients is not all that Dr. Jessica Peatross does with her time. She has many hobbies, of course, but she also takes time to give back to community in Louisville, Kentucky. She is clearly an upstanding citizen in her profession as a medical internist, but she is also an upstanding citizen in her off-hours. Dr. Jessica Peatross volunteers her time in many ways to help those who are less fortunate than she is.

“I became a doctor to help people,” says Dr. Jessica Peatross. “So it only makes sense to me to help in other ways, especially by volunteering. By donating my time to my community, I’m able to help people who aren’t my patients.”

Dr. Jessica Peatross was named an ambassador for Toys for Tots. The organization helps less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas by delivering toys to those who would otherwise not be given any. For Dr. Jessica Peatross, being able to spread the message and help children gives her a sense of accomplishment.

“Helping improve the health of people is important to me,” says Dr. Jessica Peatross. “But there is nothing that makes you feel better than knowing you made a difference in the life of a child.”

Toys for Tots is not the only organization Dr. Jessica Peatross donates her time to. She also helps to serve the homeless at Wayside Christian Mission. The mission provides temporary shelter, food, and clothing year-round to those in need. The biggest need comes during the Christmas holiday. That is when Dr. Jessica Peatross volunteers at the mission.

“It breaks my heart to see anyone in need,” says Dr. Jessica Peatross. “That is why I choose to help to provide a caring atmosphere for them in any way I can.”

As a volunteer, Dr. Jessica Peatross makes an enormous impact on the health and well-being of her community, just as she does when she is treating patients. Helping people is the number one priority for Dr. Jessica Peatross, and being able to volunteer at these organizations is the best way she can do that.
