Destiny Ramjohn is thrilled for the opportunity to perform fieldwork in India thanks to an international travel grant.

Destiny Ramjohn is thrilled to announce that she is the recipient of a competitive international grant, which will give her the opportunity to travel to Chennai, India. As a recipient of this international grant, Destiny Ramjohn is distinguished from her peers as a young professional and medical process evaluation consultant. With the Community Health Worker program, Destiny Ramjohn will be able to examine gender inequalities and healthcare access in the remote places of India.

“It’s an honor to receive this grant and have the opportunity to travel abroad,” says Destiny Ramjohn. “The work we do allows local healthcare systems to make their processes more efficient so that more villagers and residents of surrounding areas have access to the healthcare they need and deserve. Our work will be performed in various phases, including the assessment, creating a program theory, and implementing that plan into practice.”

This trip aboard isn’t the first time that Destiny Ramjohn has utilized her skills as an expert program evaluation professional. Since 2006, she has been using her skills with the New York State Health Foundation to create a three-tier evaluation technical assistance program. This program created foundational support to help the organization reach its strategic objectives. In fact, the three-tier evaluation program designed by Destiny Ramjohn was awarded as one of the organization’s “Top 10 Strongest Achievements” in 2008.

Now, Destiny Ramjohn has the experience to exercise those same areas of expertise in Chennai, India. “The way the medical community approaches work abroad has changed rapidly in the past decade,” explains Destiny Ramjohn. “Instead of simply offering medical services like you envision in mission trips, our objective is to establish a sustainable and efficient healthcare system. As we evaluate their programs to improve the access of care, the global healthcare community is strengthened.”

During her trip abroad, Destiny Ramjohn performed fieldwork in examining the engagement of an all-female health workforce. Furthermore, she will investigate healthcare utilization and try to discern any barriers that prevent female villagers from getting the care they deserve. Destiny Ramjohn intends on training the local healthcare staff to improve their capacity to serve under ethical guidelines.
