David Pedro Bica gives advice on how to prevent sports injury

David Pedro Bica is an osteopathic physician who specializes in sports medicine. David Pedro Bica is distinguished in the sports medicine field and has received publication for his innovative research by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the Athletic Training & Sports Health Care bi-monthly journal, and the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine. David Pedro Bica has witnessed various sports-related injuries and has treated both professionals and amateurs. Although injuries cannot always be deterred, David Pedro Bica offers advice on how to aid in prevention.

David Pedro Bica believes that overtraining is the root of many sports-related injuries. “We live in an extremely competitive culture, and people are convinced that strict and rigorous training will guarantee success. While I agree that staying dedicated to training is important, it is crucial to know your limitations. Athletes and even amateurs consistently push their limits because they are ambitious and desire to succeed. I see so many patients who jump into training their bodies are not conditioned for. I understand that success is important, but success will not be possible if you end up suffering from permanent injury. I want to help people prevent this from happening,” David Pedro Bica stated.

Another issue that David Pedro Bica has witnessed with athletes is their ability to push through pain. Although David Pedro Bica admires the strength and determination in athletes, he advises self-control when it comes to pain. David Pedro Bica disclosed, “I have seen many patients with serious injuries. I will always ask when the pain developed and when they discontinued engaging in the physical activity that caused it. Frequently, patients will reveal that they have still tried to participate in athletics although they are experiencing immense pain. I want to advise everyone to stop doing this. I know coaches can put pressure on athletes to push through pain, or amateurs can tell themselves that pain is temporary; however, training on an injury is extremely dangerous.”

David Pedro Bica hopes that more athletes develop self-constraint to stop physical activity and immediately seek a physician if pain starts occurring. David Pedro Bica notes that seeking immediate treatment will aid in a faster recovery that will get you back on the field in no time.
