Daniel Harvey Riggs Looks Forward to Mentoring Young Journalists

Daniel Harvey Riggs, a journalist in Reno, Nevada, is looking forward to mentoring young journalists.

 
For most journalists, finding and keeping a job is the only thing they have time for. Of course, being a working journalist like Daniel Harvey Riggs is very busy and taxing, but a few do find time to reach out within their communities, or to mentor young journalists who are looking for advice about starting their careers. This is the case for Daniel Harvey Riggs.

“I realized that many people who are just getting started out in journalism are scared about what the future hold for the industry and their job prospects,” Daniel Harvey Riggs told the press. “It occurred to me that I am in a unique position. I can help young people get started out by mentoring them through their education and initial job prospects.”

Daniel Harvey Riggs continued, “I am excited for the opportunity to meet with young people and help them decide what steps they need to take to begin a successful career in journalism.”

Daniel Harvey Riggs studied at the University of Nevada’s Reynolds School of Journalism, where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Since visiting, Daniel Harvey Riggs has won a number of awards including the prestigious Steve Matarano Award for Best Published Article. Furthermore, Daniel Harvey Riggs’s work has been published in a number of exciting publications, including the Huffington Post.

Daniel Harvey Riggs recognizes that he has been incredibly lucky in his career. Additionally, Daniel Harvey Riggs knows that he has worked very hard to get where he is today. “I have learned so much throughout the course of my career, and I am excited to share what I have learned with young people in the community,” Daniel Harvey Riggs explained.

Daniel Harvey Riggs intends to start his mentorship program with local university students at the Reynolds School of Journalism, and intends to later extend it to include high school students – if he can involve other interested professional journalists.

“I really hope that this program will be a success,” Daniel Harvey Riggs said. He continued, “The more journalism changes, the more our industry is going to need enthusiastic young people who can work to get the job done.”
