One of the most disturbing images that Christopher Ursin cannot shake from his memories of the Middle East, was a child drinking visibly filthy water on a blistering hot day. Aside from how it looked, who knows what kind of bacteria was floating around in that cup. Christopher Ursin decided that he would try to do something to help this child and the millions of others after he returned to the United States. He had often heard about how dire the water situation was in many countries around the world, but he had now witnessed it with his own eyes.
After Christopher Ursin was comfortably back home and drinking water whenever he pleased, he began researching charitable organizations who were dealing with water issues. Charity: Water caught his eye and he decided that this would be the organization that he would work with.
“Charity: Water was organizing projects that were digging wells, setting up rainwater catchments and even gravity fed systems. We, in the United States, really take all of this for granted. I was amazed at what this organization was doing in places like Cambodia and Ethiopia,” said Christopher Ursin.
Christopher Ursin did not just want to send the organization money. He wanted to feel a bit involved so he started researching the volunteer events on the local meet up site. At the same time he was starting to put together the plans for his own business so he needed to be able to volunteer on his own terms. Charity: Water really was perfect for him because he could do as much or as little as he wanted.
“I hope that I can actually volunteer my time in one of Charity: Water’s projects in a few years. I spent time as a humanitarian volunteer once in Cuba and it was incredible. Now I would like to go to India or Africa and help with the manual labor. Once my business is up and running, it will be my first vacation!” said Christopher Ursin.
