Cathy Steckelberg Brings Art Appreciation to Her Community

Cathy Steckelberg explains the importance of having art and artictic epxression within a community.

 
Cathy Steckelberg wants to change that misconception that art is not a necessary addition to a students curriculum. She is also working to bring a greater awareness of the importance that art plays within a community. “I work with all ages and I feel that's never to late to become an art enthusiast,” said Cathy Steckelberg. She believes that there should be a greater importance put on artistic expression.

Community-based arts programs can have a powerful and positive impact on both youth and the overall community. Most of these programs are provided either after school, on the weekends, or as a summer school program. “These art programs should be considered by both community and state leaders as an effective tools for helping children gain a fuller educational experience.

Unfortunately these out-of-school-time lessons, or community-based youth arts programs are often looked at with a critical eye and used to gauge a school's success. Student's school attendance, test scores, graduation rates, or progress in reading and mathematics can weigh heavily on what type of art education will be offered.

According to Cathy Steckelberg, a community that is rich in art can also be a great asset to the youth, especially the underprivileged. Community arts programs can be a source of rescue for at-risk youth, minorities, or people in less affluent neighborhoods. Many programs are created for a larger goal, such as neighborhood improvement or to bring divers cultures together. Politicians usually a lot excess funds for these programs to meet a purpose. Regardless of the ultimate goal, community arts programs are build social capital by boosting the residents desire to become more civic minded, as well as come together to form closer community ties.

Cathy Steckelberg believes that it's necessary to implement more art's programs within the community and to develop both the younger and older generations artistic talents. In her years of art teaching experience, she has come along a few very gifted individuals. Art can give kids something to feel good about and also provide a creative outlet. She has belonged to the art teacher association for over 12 years. She tries to always give back to her community.

Besides teaching art, Cathy Steckelberg is also a fantasy football enthusiast as well and knows a great deal about the game. Whatever she pursues in life she does it with great passion and enthusiasm. Cathy Steckelberg's other great passion is walking her dogs and swimming.
