For University of Colorado sophomore Caitlin Lizza, September is the best month of the year. That’s because it signals the start of a new school semester, a fact that Caitlin Lizza can hardly hide her excitement about. The second year student enjoyed her freshman year so much that the summer almost felt like more work, she laughs. “I was just counting down the days,” she says.

Caitlin Lizza’s freshman year was marked by lots of new experiences. When she signed up for her classes, Caitlin Lizza could not have foreseen how much they would end up influencing her direction in the remainder of her college and possibly even into her professional future. First of all, Caitlin Lizza loved her communications class so much that she has decided to think about pursuing communications as a major. It is too early to say for certain yet, but if Caitlin Lizza enjoys her next few communications classes as much as the first, it could really blossom into a passion.

In addition, Caitlin Lizza had a wonderful experience in her nutrition class last year. Learning about nutrition and the various ways to keep a human body healthy through diet had a big influence on her, and she now pays very close attention to what she eats and the needs of her body. “I was so excited to learn all the ways to stay healthy,” Caitlin Lizza was quoted as saying. “It was a real eye opener.”

Caitlin Lizza plans to keep her horizons open, however; she does not want to get blocked into a major too soon. “A lot of people choose a major right away and never take classes from any other field,” the sophomore says. “But for me, it’s important to keep my horizons broad. I have a lot of different interests and now is the perfect time to explore as many as I can before I get settled in too far.”

It sounds like Caitlin Lizza has a good head on her shoulders already. With an attitude like that, Caitlin Lizza is sure to get the most out of her college experience.
