One of the simplest things that anyone can do is to drink more water. Water is an essential. Since the human body consists of about seventy percent water, nutritionists recommend that we drink six to eight glasses of water every day. This will keep you hydrated, and is a way of flushing out the body’s toxins.

It’s also a good idea to limit the amount of alcohol and caffeinated beverages you consume. Not only coffee and tea, but cola drinks have a lot caffeine in them, and like alcoholic drinks can dehydrate the body.

You should also avoid processed foods, and cut down on meat and dairy consumption. This can be very good for the digestive system. Nutritionists say fruits to emphasize include berries, pears, plums and apples. It’s a good idea to avoid fruit juice, though, because they can pack a wallop in sugar levels.

Whole grains like oatmeal and brown rice are important because they provide fiber and essential nutrients like protein and iron. There is no ideal whole grain to eat, but in addition to oatmeal and brown rice, good choices include buckwheat, quinoa, and amaranth.

When it comes to staying healthy and keeping on a proper diet, a really good rule of thumb is to choose foods that are as close to nature as possible. Always read ingredient lists on the foods you buy, and if there is something on it you can’t even pronounce and don’t know what it is, avoid it. Choosing those foods that are in season, and are certified organic, is always a safe bet.
