LOS ANGELES, CA – Emerging hip hop artist Chris Bonds released his stellar new single "Gettin It In Ghana," a track that features West African award winner Pappy Kojo and upcoming Ghanaian artist Ben Yoolo. Usually you see people make their way to the States to make it in the music business, but Bonds did the opposite and moved to West Africa – and it seems to be working wonders. After a notable collaboration went viral, he quickly developed a reputation in the region as buzzworthy act deserving of attention. So he left behind his life in Memphis to embark on a new journey.

“To be honest, I would have never thought I would be living in Africa,” he explains. “It was not on my bucket list at all! I got introduced to Africa through an African rapper from Gambia. He reached out to me on YouTube and wanted to collaborate on a song. I really liked his music and the song he sent me, so I did the feature and the song got radio play. But it wasn’t until after I had this urge to go to Africa and visit that I fell in love with the beauty, spirit, and emerging hip hop scene it had to offer.”

Channeling his early influences of Public Enemy and Ice Cube, Bonds’ new single blends his Memphis swagger with Ghana Afro-style hip hop. Working with Slimbo, one of the hottest hip hop producers in Ghana, the track uniquely features three different dialects: English, Twi, and Fante’, and marks the first time that an African American rapper has ever recorded and released a song in the country.

"Even though this song is considered a club banger, it still has a message to it. Africa is facing a major power crisis at the moment and the message I’m putting across is that even though the power goes out frequently, we’re still getting it in and working and doing whatever we have to do to survive. In Africa it’s not easy, so this is a ‘Vimm’ song, meaning motivation.”

Bonds has plans to tour other African countries in the near future and is currently searching for talent to sign to his label Timeout International, home to aforementioned rapper Ben Yoolo. He’s available for interviews upon request.
