MOWER4LAWN (www.mower4lawn.com) the web's leading site for getting information on the latest green and ecological lawn and push mowers is offering advice about Spring lawn mower readiness. With Spring around the corner, a lawn mower that's been in storage for a few months requires a few little things to have it purring along in no time.

The first thing to do is remove the old spark plug. This is for safety and a new one should be at the ready for when you complete the rest of your maintenance. Insert the battery and reconnect the battery cables. This will be a good time to check and clean the air filter. If it is a foam type it can be cleaned with soapy water and returned to the motor. If the filter is paper, replace the filter with a new one. Now it's time to replace the old spark plug with the new one.

Oil maintenance is recommended at this time by changing the oil. Simply remove the oil drain plug located somewhere along the bottom of the engine. The dirty oil will run out so be sure to have a container available in which for it to drip. When the oil pan has completely drained, be sure to first replace the plug and then open and refill the crankcase with the type and quantity of oil suggested by the mower's owner manual. Speaking of oil, be sure to oil the ball bearings and any other moving parts to lubricate them and wipe off the excess so a fire hazard isn't created.

Lastly, check the blade. A dull blade will not cut grass in the best possible way. This is best accomplished if the blade is removed from the mower. If there are defects that have been created by hitting rocks or other debris, it may be best to replace the blade with a new one.
