Meredith Alvaro is a literary specialist who works as a consultant for many schools in New Jersey and throughout the United States.

New Jersey - Many schools are concerned with how effective their teachers are in meeting the educational needs of students. Part of their growing concern is the drop in test scores on many standardized tests. Meredith Alvaro has become a factor in assisting schools in New Jersey, and nationwide, in improving their language arts scores. Not only does she advocate for language arts, but she provides schools and classroom teachers with the tools necessary to demonstrably increase students' writing abilities and their reading for meaning achievement.

"I knew I wanted to use my skills to help others. Not every teacher possesses the specific knowledge or confidence to adapt their teaching strategies to all of the new writing and reading requirements being asked of their students. Through various workshops, I help teachers learn assessment skills and different strategies they can readily adapt to fit their curriculum," Meredith Alvaro has said.

Meredith Alvaro’s work has paid off for multiple schools already. In 2012, many New Jersey public schools saw increases on the NJASK. The increased test scores added to her credibility as an invaluable literacy consultant. Part of the increase is due to her in-classroom participation, but it is believed that much of it also comes from the outstanding and highly engaging workshops she provides for teachers and educational administrators.

"Teachers and administrators have been repeated attendees at a number of my workshops. These include my workshop entitled Response to Intervention, Assessment: Beyond Paper and Pencil, my workshops on Content Area Reading: K-12, and many others,” Meredith Alvaro noted. Each workshop is designed to provide teachers and educational administrators with the tools and materials necessary to teach and redesign their curriculums and teaching strategies to meet the new Common Core Standards.

Meredith Alvaro has worked with many New Jersey school districts to align their kindergarten through 12th grade Language Arts Curriculum to the new Common Core Standards. Meredith Alvaro also worked with well known author Jane Lovascio to create a new Anti-Bullying Curriculum aligned with Common Core Standards.

In addition to developing a new curriculum for New Jersey schools, Meredith Alvaro has also created successful workshops for use nationwide. Among these are her new workshops: Using Targeted Classroom Instructional Strategies and Common Core Standards and PARCC: What Schools Can (and Should) Begin Now provide two new ways to help teachers educate students effectively.

About: Meredith Alvaro helped design new curriculums for some New Jersey public schools and run workshops to provide teachers with new teaching strategies.
