Making the 1950s Modern!

The camper truck that Russ Moen has so lovingly modified brings so much attention around the show scene that he sometimes has to hide it but it’s no wonder!

The 1954 Chevrolet COE truck from Vancouver Island, Canada, has taken a whopping five years to build and it is estimated that Mr Moen has spent an eye watering 6,000 hours creating the ultimate motor home!

Fondly now known as the ‘mother ship’ the vehicle has an array of technology inside the cabin really helping to create the idea of a home on wheels.

Features of the motor include full air-ride suspensions, three rear view cameras, heated seats, air conditioning and a fully functioning fresh water carrier.

Adding to this are the home comforts of a kitchen area - where you will find a refrigerator and stove, a bathroom area – where you can shower in peace, plus all modern gadgets such as a flat screen TV and LED lighting.

It comes as no surprise that the motorhome has received awards at every show since the modified motorhome was completed in 2010.

Conception of the vehicle occurred when Russ, quite the professional builder, decided to rebuild the Tourliner as a replica of many that may have been seen in the 1950s – even flying to California to pick up relevant parts.

Moen agrees that he could have bought a brand new motorhome for less money and no effort however, has admitted that he likes to do as much as possible himself.

"Believe it or not, my wife and I are not campers," he states. "I built the Tourliner for long distance travel and so my wife and I could go to car shows in comfort."

We can’t blame him.
