Miami’s Jesus Salas was in attendance at Radio Ink’s Hispanic Radio Conference as a moderator for the discussion on the power of radio and the Hispanic community.

Miami, FL - Jesus Salas of Miami’s Spanish Broadcasting System moderated the discussion, which included Spanish-language professionals Johnny Caride of Miami’s WXDJ-FM; Arnaldo “JR” Olivieri, Vice President of Programming for WDCN and WDCO; Oscar Ramos, Senior Director and General Manager of ESPN Deportes Radio and ESPNdepotes.com; and Phil Michaels Trueba WQHT’s Program Director. The panel discussion is one of the highlights of the event.

Jesus Salas in Miami’s Biltmore Hotel moderated the discussion, in which Spanish-language radio professionals discussed such issues as how Spanish language channels can reach bilingual listeners, as well as find the holes in each station’s programming. With the impact that Hispanic listeners have on radio, Jesus Salas sees Miami’s stations being on the air for quite a while.

The conference, in its 4th year, exemplifies exactly the growth that the panel discussed. Each year the conference has grown with more attendees and more evidence of the Hispanic population’s influence throughout the preceding year. Jesus Salas of Miami says, “It was amazing to see the people that were involved in the conference this year. Both opening speaker Senator Marco Rubio and keynote speaker Geraldo Rivera were welcome guests this year. It was most amazing to see all of the professionals involved in Spanish language radio. Every year the crowd is a little bigger, and it’s nice to know that what we’re involved in here is having an impact.”

After this year’s success, next year’s conference is already on the calendar. The next Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference will be held in 2014 on March 10th and 11th in San Diego, California. While Jesus Salas of Miami will have to travel a little further to attend next year’s conference, he looks forward to continuing to be involved in the conference. Jesus Salas of Miami’s Spanish Broadcasting System looks forward to taking what he learned at the conference and putting it to use at his stations.
