Fayne Griffiths, local college administrator, takes home first place in Group C of Beaverton Fun Pickleball Tournament, along with her doubles partner.

Fayne Griffiths, an administrator at Lewis and Clark College, is pleased to announce that she and her doubles partner, Clay Reynolds, won first place in Group C at the Beaverton Fun Tournament, hosted by the Columbia River Pickleball club.

“This was a great tournament with friendly but stiff competition,” said Fayne Griffiths, who was ranked number one in the USA Pickleball Association’s women’s tournament circuit in 2002. “Clay and I managed to pull off a win in our last match, which was a very exciting last minute pull through.”

The Beaverton Fun Tournament was the first major event put on by the Columbia River Pickleball Club, which seeks to bring together pickleball enthusiasts from the Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA areas. Fayne Anne Griffiths was one of 42 lucky individuals who secured a spot in one of the three competitive player pools for the Beaverton Fun Tournament, which was held last week at the Tualatin Hills Sports Complex.

Pickleball was invented in the 1960s as a combination of badminton, tennis, and table tennis played with something approaching a whiffle ball, but has only recently begun to pick up speed as a popular amateur sport. “People are always asking me what pickleball is – it sounds like baseball played with a pickle instead of a ball!” remarked Fayne Griffiths. “But it really is a lot of fun, a great way to get some exercise with healthy competition in a relatively low-impact sport, as well as an avenue to meet and get to know new people outside of work. ”

When she’s not showing her prodigious skill on the pickleball court, Fayne Griffiths runs the office at Lewis and Clark College as the Director of Student and Departmental Accounts. Fayne Griffiths also has an MBA from George Fox University and thirty years of experience in college financial administration. Fayne Griffiths has worked at multiple colleges in the Portland area in addition to Lewis and Clark, including the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Clackamas Community College, and the American College of Health Sciences, as well as the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts.
