Priscilla G Sabado has decided to mentor an international MBA student for the fourth year in a row.

Mentoring is an activity that many people find rewarding and Priscilla G Sabado is no exception. The 62-year-old financial professional has been mentoring international MBA students at the University of California-Irvine’s MBA program since 2009 and she has decided to continue for another year. “It is a great feeling to know you are helping someone to further their education,” Priscilla G Sabado was quoted as saying, “And to help an international student is a great privilege for me; it gives me great satisfaction.”

When Priscilla G Sabado began mentoring in 2009, she had no idea how much she would come to enjoy the process. She had mentored before in her past corporate life and had always had an interest in helping people advance their careers, international students in particular since international business is one of Priscilla G Sabado’s specialties. As it turned out, mentoring provided a perfect opportunity to blend her affinity for business with her strong desire to help others and to enrich her community.

As a Filipino-American businesswoman, Priscilla G Sabado brings a unique perspective to her mentoring that she believes increases and enriches the student’s experience. Priscilla G Sabado has a wealth of business knowhow and financial expertise to draw upon and, as a fixture in the local business community, she brings a lot of knowledge to the table. Priscilla G Sabado provides a great deal of useful, relevant, and real-world knowledge that helps the student gain valuable perspective.

And the rewards of mentoring go both ways. “I love it,” said Priscilla G Sabado, “Working with the student throughout the year is so rewarding and when the student turns around and tells you what a help you have been, well, there’s no better feeling than that. It’s always a pleasure to work with these students and I really believe we both gain from the experience. Each year I spend mentoring is better than the last. I gain more experience, and more perspective, too.”

There is no end in sight for Priscilla G Sabado’s mentoring career; she intends to continue mentoring indefinitely. “As long as there are students who need mentoring, I will be there,” she said.
