The Art of Personal Training

Posted March 8, 2015 by portlandfitness

A small, cozy studio with ample open space and a relative lack of fancy equipment isn’t the norm when it comes to personal training, but at The Art of Personal Training they make it work, through a combination of knowledge and versatile equipment.

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into The Art of Personal Training is that the relatively Spartan studio is missing a lot of the things normally associated with gyms. There is a treadmill and a stairclimber, but no barbells or benches. No complicated pieces of equipment with more levers and pulleys than a Rube Goldberg machine. No bulky, intimidating gym rats staring you down for daring to invade their space. Instead, you’ll see a well-kept, neat and orderly room with carefully controlled atmospheric conditions and a spotless, pristine floor. Everything has a place in The Art of Personal Training, and everything is in its place.
Don’t think for a second that the lack of a leg-press machine will make the workouts less effective. The equipment in the Art of Personal Training has one overarching theme: versatility. The weights, kettlebells, cable machines and benches all are used in an incredible variety of ways. The trainers are taught to be creative and inventive with their workouts. Instead of having a multitude of equipment that does one thing and one thing only, the equipment at The Art of Personal Training can be used in a multitude of ways, something that will ensure your workouts are always varied and interesting.
In fact, the space itself is used inventively. Because of the open nature of the studio – all the equipment is pushed up against the walls – there is a large, open space right in the center of the studio, and that openness is used to full effect. Clients will run, skip, jump and hop across the room. For the more advanced clients, the battling ropes will be used to pull the trainers in a tug-of-war, or a trainer may be picked up and carried across the room.
Versatility and inventiveness is the name of the game at The Art of Personal Training. The workouts are fun and challenging, and will hold your interest every time because of how different they are. The trainer’s knowledge and the versatility of the equipment will mean that every single time you walk through the door, the workout will be something new.
