The charitable organisation, Community Kitchens Project, has announced they have been successful in securing a two year grant from BBC Children in Need, helped in part, by the donations received from handmade kitchen company, Plain English.

Community Kitchens Project, who has received £150 from every Plain English kitchen sold this year, reserved a portion of the company’s donations for use in match funding applications. The remaining donations helped to fund a series of ‘Cook & Taste’ courses, kitchen design London and healthy living workshops for disadvantaged children and care leavers in Islington, London.

“I have no doubt that the charitable support provided by Plain English helped us to obtain the £20,000 grant from BBC Children in Need. The extra funding will allow us to expand our projects with young people, aged between 14-19, who have been in care or who have regular contact with social services”, (Gabriel Mesquita, Community Kitchens Project of Manor Gardens Welfare Trust).

Following the success of the charity’s pilot ‘Healthy Heart’ workshops, Community Kitchens Project has also agreed a contract with the Islington Council to deliver three further workshops for adults who are on low income and have learning and support needs.

“It is wonderful that Community Kitchens Project has been granted this much-needed, additional funding, and that Plain English could help in some way to make it possible. It highlights what invaluable work the charity does and we hope that, for many years to come, they can continue to support and encourage underprivileged young people who want to create a more independent life for themselves.” (Katie Fontana, Creative Director of Plain English)
