Pharmaffiliates - Aspirin-A prominent NSAID

Posted March 30, 2017 by pharmaffiliates

Aspirin or Acetylsalicylic Acid is an acetyl derivative of Salicylic acid and it is used in the treatment of fever, pain, rheumatic fever, and inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, pericarditis, and Kawasaki disease.

A class of drugs that provides antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects is known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID).

Aspirin or Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA) is one of the most prominent members of this family and it is available over-the-counter in most countries.

Aspirin or Acetylsalicylic Acid is an acetyl derivative of Salicylic acid and it is used in the treatment of fever, pain, rheumatic fever, and inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, pericarditis, and Kawasaki disease.

Aspirin works by suppressing the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes, as it has the ability to irreversibly inactive cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme required for prostaglandin and thromboxane synthesis.

Synthesis of Aspirin or Acetyl Salicylic acid involves esterification of salicylic acid with acetic anhydride. Several process related impurities, metabolites, intermediates, and degradants are associated with Aspirin.

Pharmaffiliates Analytics and Synthetics P. Ltd. has been successful in identifying and synthesizing the reference standards of Aspirin API and its related impurities. The impurity standards of Aspirin available at Pharmaffiliates are listed and classified below.

Acetylsalicylic acid - impurity A or p-Salicylic Acid- a positional isomer of salicylic acid present as an impurity in acetylsalicylic acid. It is also used as an intermediate for dyes, antiseptics, and active pharmaceutical ingredients.

•Acetylsalicylic acid - impurity B or 4-Hydroxyisophthalic acid- an impurity of Acetylsalicylic acid. It is a byproduct formed during the synthesis of salicylic acid.

•Acetylsalicylic acid - impurity C or Salicylic acid- starting material in the synthesis of Acetylsalicylic acid. Salicylic acid is also an active metabolite of Acetylsalicylic acid.

•Acetylsalicylic acid - impurity D or Acetylsalicylsalicylic acid- a salicylate impurity of Acetylsalicylic acid. Acetyl salicylsalicylic acid is found to be potentially immunogenic substance being involved in the development of allergic reactions to acetylsalicylic acid preparations.

•Acetylsalicylic acid - impurity E or Salicylsalicylic acid- a salicylate impurity of Acetylsalicylic acid. Salicylsalicylic acid is used in organic synthesis and functions as a plant hormone, as a key ingredient in topical anti-acne products.

•Acetylsalicylic acid - impurity F or Acetylsalicylic Anhydride- a salicylate impurity of Acetylsalicylic acid.

All the above mentioned reference materials are available at Pharmaffiliates in a pack size of 25mg and 50 mg. Customized pack sizes are also available as per the customer’s need.

Majority of the above mentioned impurities, synthesized at Pharmaffiliates are 98% pure and each of these standards are been identified through an elaborate structure elucidation data and Certificate of Analysis is provided for the same
