Uber Drivers: How to Earn More with Lower Rates

Posted November 15, 2016 by peterwill276

Are you ready to control your time, income, and own your business? Maybe you’re an UberX driver and see others earning more, in a better car, or with multiple cars?

As an Uber driver, it is sometimes annoying that Uber seems to focus so much on its passengers, and very little on the driver. It isn’t that hard to detect that Uber is a customer-centric company and as such the incessant fare reductionsare a little annoying. This is why in this post we will attempt to give you a few tips that will help you keep your income steady even when the rates are low.

Take Advantage of the Referral Cash

We all know that Uber’s stream of drivers hardly drops and as bad as driver complaints might be, many people are still fascinated by the idea of working at their own set hours and being independent without having to worry about pleasing a boss. So if they wish to ‘step in the light’, you had better be the one to show them the way (as long as it means more cash for you). Many drivers have upped their referral bonus game by printing business card and having their referral codes printed on them.

Double the Value of Your Time

You can double the value of your time by doing something else while you drive. Many drivers today do delivery for some delivery services. Some drivers consider adding Lyft to the list during this period. They say it’s a good way to erase the wait times between rides, since you might already have a Lyft ride on the wait when your Uber ride is ending. Just ensure that you are sure it is what you need.

Hack Uber Guarantees

Even if you have an Uber black car, rate cuts are a reality. During rate cuts, Uber drivers get hourly guarantees and get paid a particular amount if they are able to complete a set number of rides, usually from 1.2 to 1.5 rides per hour. These guarantees are promotional incentives that are put in place to encourage partners at times like this when there’s low fare rate. To qualify for this, you have to work within the set guarantee blocks, have a high acceptance rate over the stretch of a week and also complete a set number of rides between those hours. Your city’s weekly email will contain the specific qualification criteria for your area. A smart way to hack this guarantee program is to move to areas you know would have shorter rides so that you can complete your required average number of rides, then move back to your normal area for the rest of the hours. This is surely a way to work less and get paid anyway.

Find Other Ways

I can’t think of any better time to remind you to look at our post here. It has a few side jobs options that are available for Uber drivers who want to make more money. The Uber business isn’t one with tight schedule or restrictions so you have the opportunity, as independent contractors, to test diverse ways of optimizing your income rate. So at times when rates are low, you might need to search for other means to make money without necessarily quitting your Uber business.
