Is Drinking Tap Water Safe in Dubai?

Posted July 21, 2017 by peterwill276

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE now get their water from the sea or from brackish groundwater that is too salty to drink .

To drive people away from consuming bottled water, the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) has declared that the tap water in Dubai is completely safe and pure for drinking purposes, as it has been proven after numerous tests run on the water system. But despite all their efforts, the EEG has still not been successful in convincing people to drink tap water. Why not? We’re here to answer that question and decide once and for all if drinking tap water in Dubai is safe.

Middle East’s Water Conservation Efforts

To reduce the reliance on bottled water the country, as a whole, spends less on bottled water. And also as part of the Middle East’s water conservation efforts, Dubai has worked to introduce a purified water system by setting up drinking water filters to provide pure, clean and filtered water to all the citizens.

System of Water Purification in Dubai

According to the chairperson of the EEG, they are trying to tackle the misconception that the tap water in Dubai is not fit for consumption. For this reason, they have highlighted the new water purification filtration system running throughout Dubai now. But despite all the efforts by the EEG to provide filtered water, majority citizens continue using bottled water and demand for bottled water is still very high. When citizens continue to buy bottled water, the state ends up losing a lot of money since it is putting in great money in the desalination of the tap water and yet the tap water is still not being used.

Why You Need to Give Up Bottled Water

Now here’s why you should give up buying bottled water and start drinking tap water if you’re in Dubai. For starters, the tap water has officially been labeled as drinkable and safe for consumption due to the water treatment systems, so there’s no reason not to drink it anymore. The state is spending a lot in the desalination of the water, all for the benefit of its citizens. So the citizens might as well capitalize on this benefit as best as they can. Then there’s the fact that you’ll also be saving a ton of money by giving up buying the bottled water. It might not seem like much right now, but think of how much you might spend in a whole year if you buy only bottled water all day every day. That adds up to a huge amount.

Filter Your Tap Water At Home

If you still don’t trust the tap water, then you can simply invest in water purifier systems for drinking by yourself. They’re available easily and aren’t even that expensive, and will still be cheaper than all the money you spend on bottled water. And here’s the last and most important reason why: because bottled water isn’t all that healthy for you. Instead of drinking from a purified water system, you’re drinking water that comes straight out of a plastic bottle. Think of all the chemicals that are now in the water because of the plastic. So here’s the final verdict: the tap water in Dubai is drinkable and much healthier than any bottled water out there.
