What are lipomas?
Many people have lumps and bump on their body. These bumps are called Lipomas.
Lipomas are a collection of fat cells which come together to form a fatty lump under the skin. These lumps of fat are benign and non-cancerous. In the majority of cases they are not painful or harmful. Lipomas can form anywhere on the body.
Can Lipomas be removed?
In most cases lipomas can be easily removed. Some lipomas, if large or deep, can be more challenging to excise. Lipoma removal is generally considered to be a cosmetic procedure, therefore your GP might not offer you lipoma removal on the NHS. However, we recommend all our patients visit their GP prior to a consultation with us to confirm that the lump is a lipoma and that it cannot be removed on the NHS.
Once you have seen by one of our doctors, they will assess your lipoma and determine a price. This will on the size and site of the lipoma. It will also be determined whether your lipoma will need further investigation i.e. histology.
If your lesion is a lipoma then you can have the lipoma removal treatment on the same day as your consultation if both you and the doctor are happy to proceed.
Please note when booking your consultation, that there will be a £20 booking fee. This will need to be paid at the time of making your appointment and is later deducted from the price of any treatment you may have.
