Für das Fire HD 7 werden hingegen 119 Euro im Einstiegsmodell verlangt und 164 Euro für die Top-Variante.Deutlich teurer weil auch besser ausgestattet ist hingegen das neue Top-Modell Fire HDX 8.9. Gegenüber dessen Vorgänger bleibt es zwar bei 8,9 Zoll Diagonale und einer Auflösung von 2.560 x 1.600 Pixel, jedoch hat Amazon die Bildqualität verbessern können und vor allem eines gemacht: Den Snapdragon 805 Quad-Core mit 2,5 GHz als Prozessor verbaut. Zusammen mit 2 GB Arbeitsspeicher dürfte das Fire HDX 8.9 Tablet für nahezu alle Anwendungen gerüstet sein. Der wahlweise 16, 32 oder 64 GB große interne Flash-Speicher lässt sich wie bei den kleinen Modellen nicht erweitern.

Ob der Erfolg allerdings sonderlich groß wird ist eine gänzlich andere Frage. Über die maximale Größe sind noch keine Infos bekannt. Der Arbeitsspeicher ist mit 1 GB in der üblichen Größe für ein Mittelklasse-Smartphone vorhanden.Ein kleiner Lichtblick ist der 2.600 mAh fassende Akku, da dieser eine sehr lange Laufzeit für das mit Android 4.4 KitKat bestückte Android Smartphone in Aussicht stellt. Die gesamte Technik sitzt in einem 144 x 72 x 8,6 mm großen Gehäuse, welches Samsung-typisch aus Kunststoff gefertigt wird.
