The United Kingdom of Great Britain has four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. While London is the capital of England, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast are capitals of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland respectively. The UK is a constitutional monarchy, having the signatory authority of Queen Elizabeth II who works as the head of state, and parliamentary democracy.

In the recent years of financial breakdown, the economy of UK has got a huge jolt which has left everything crushing and out of the place. Furthermore, the coalition government has put new pressures on our chiefly two-party system. In over 60 years of parliamentary democracy in UK, due to several compromises the effectiveness of policies has not proved substantial in the growth and development of economy. Reports are also ripe of many minor party rifts which were and continue to get highlighted in the media off and on and there is overwhelming citizen outcry on it.

Recession, the economy and cutbacks have almost outweighed in melding with the government policy, and discernment of many individuals, which include citizens and representatives of House of Commons, have seriously been affected in variety of ways. Recently Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics concluded, which saw the change and shift from issues concerning the economy and wrongful policy formulations. It was the time of jubilation and enjoyment for general Britons.

Not far down across the Westminster lobby, irrespective of the background, the domestic, social and business affairs of the nation, Parliamentary democracy affairs continue to take on its routine course. There are often acerbic debates, which continue and take place about issues such as the NHS, education, social services, the environment, international affairs, public- and private-sector business and many more. The potpourri of issues have indeed played crucial role in managing the affairs of UK in general.

Today, UK is considered to be one of the best Parliamentary Democratic Countries in the world and the fact is that the country seemingly continues to evolve in one way or the other. The two party systems is still the norm and it has played effective role in keeping the interests of common citizens in place as much as it has helped them to build an effective society to live by. However, the concern today is that democracy itself is affecting the political system as any party who comes to power and forms government will have to do it by way of coalition. Coalition government tends to destabilize country’s economy, and much of it has been evident in the recent tough financial times.
