A mystery novel should have basic but important elements to be successful in the market which includes: characters, plot, problem, occurrence of events and the solution. These are some basic elements which add value to the story but are as important as the story itself. These elements keep the story engaging and allow the reader to decode the mystery in a logical way.

Characters: Every one of us have a favorite character in every book we read, right? Have you ever imagined a book without a favorite character? For a story to be successful, the characters needs to be described in a way that the reader is able to visualize each person in the story. The main character has an important role as the mystery is always solved by the character when it centers upon. A mystery novel becomes most interesting when the reader starts to imagine future situations and role of each described character in the book.

Plot: A plot is something which has a meaningful beginning, middle and end. A good description to each of the three stages determines the probability of success of the book. There are instances when the reader thinks that the book had catchy beginning and end but the middle events didn’t have the charm. This is a crucial point which should be avoided as mystery is dependent of the entire plot rather than just the beginning and the end.

Problem: A mystery book’s main subject is a problem which needs to be resolved with the description of various events. The problem area holds the main attention in the entire story. Why was the crime committed and by whom? This is the basic question that is described in a way that a reader tries to solve with each twist in the storyline. This problem statement is described with some clues that grabs the attention of the reader and tries to reach a conclusion about the same.

Occurrence of Events: A mystery novel holds its importance based on the events that are described in the best possible manner. The occurrence of events makes the story more engaging to the reader. Events are said to be described in the best way when the reader tries to solve each given clue to resolve the mystery. The flow of events holds the key role when the mystery unfolds itself with best possible events and is not deviated to any other direction.

Solution: What is the best possible way to resolve a mystery? Mystery is a genre which doesn’t have an obvious ending unlike other genres. The twist and turns of the story when attained with a believable ending is what makes a mystery book successful. Finding the culprit or a missing person or solving the problem with all the efforts and making it practical is important in this genre.
