PET is fully recyclable and is the most recycled plastic in the United States and the world. It can be recycled by thoroughly cleaning and remelting, or by chemically decomposing into a component material to make a new PET resin.
Products made from recycled PET include new Pet Preform Mould and containers, carpets, garments, industrial strapping, ropes, fiber fillers for winter jackets and sleeping bags, automotive parts, and even building materials.
In 2012, the United States recycled approximately 1.7 billion pounds of used PET bottles and containers for recycling. In 2012, the recovery rate of PET in the United States was 31%.
If PET bottles and containers are placed in landfills, there is no risk of leaching or contaminating groundwater because PET is inert and does not biodegrade. Because it is easily crushed, it takes up relatively little landfill space.
Although PET's raw materials are petroleum based, PET has a very favorable ecological environment compared to glass, aluminum and other container materials. Its superior strength-to-weight ratio is key to its energy and resource efficiency, allowing more products to be delivered with less packaging, less weight and less fuel.
Life cycle analysis of PET has consistently confirmed the environmental benefits of PET as a packaging material. China Pet Bottle also have the obvious advantages mentioned above, which is worth considering when purchasing molds or pet products.
