Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision ‘Housing for All’ scheme got a new boost as the central government has proposed to decentralize the scheme by rendering state governments more power in the process of planning and decision. "Empowering states is the key to the success of Housing for All," says Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, joint secretary, ministry for housing and urban poverty alleviation in New Delhi at a conference by the RICS.

Moreover, new global standards will be issued for building and construction process. The process of documentation and approval procedures for projects will also be made easy under 'Housing for All". "There is huge mismatch of housing demand and supply in India. At this point, India is looking at building homes under affordable housing to cater to this demand," said Sachin Sandhir, global managing director, emerging business at RICS. Once the process of decentralization is completed, home buyers can expect quality residential apartments in Delhi NCR at an affordable price tag.

"We believe the government along with the private sector should follow international best practices for construction of these houses under the scheme to maintain good construction quality and ensure timely completion of such projects. The government's move to increase availably of homes at affordable price points will save our cities from harboring slums," he added. In addition, property rates in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Gurgaon will go up sharply. The cabinet has also offered Rs 50,000 crore for the rejuvenation of 500 cities under the AMRUT scheme.
