Kompan School- Play and Learning for Your Kids

Posted February 23, 2017 by MiriamDelossantos

KOMPAN operates across the UK, developing schools’ outdoor and indoor areas into stimulating, fun and social spaces.

Play and learning are crucial aspects in children's daily lives because those function to unfold the knowledge around them. Outdoor play promotes children's healthy physical development and enables children to pick up the necessary skills to meet the challenges of adulthood through their own directed outdoor play. John Dewey supported the concept of theory of experience. The child simultaneously extends command or operation over the object by further exploring its characteristics, weaknesses and strengths. This means that the child is exhibiting and extending personal repertoire of habit, skills, and control of the surrounding - learning - through mere play. Even the simplest toy would mean a lot to a child because he can manipulate a toy and in the process, understand the structure involved in learning and handling the toy.

We take a creative, design-led approach and work with all relevant stakeholders throughout the project, which could include the PTA, school governors, teachers and children in the school council. Part of the consultation is also to help you understand what is possible in your indoor/outdoor space and to foresee the number of different styles and materials the project can be delivered in.

A spokesperson at Kompan Schools explained, “Our playground equipment has been specially designed to help practitioners provide outdoor learning environments which enable children to develop and create positive relationships with others and the world around them. The aim is to support the seven pillars of EYFS learning and development, outdoors in the playground”.

It’s quite hard; to sum up, what Kompan Schools is in just a few words. The Kompan Play Institute is an international network that collaborates with researchers and scientists who monitor trends and conduct studies within health, learning and social inclusion in the areas of children’s development and play.
