Civil law is a body of rules that determines and secures the private rights of citizens, offers legal redress that may be sought in a dispute, and covers areas of law such as contracts, misconducts of property and family law. Civil law is derived from the laws of ancient Rome which was mainly used to develop a code that determined how legal issues would be decided.
Primary difference between Civil Law & Criminal Law –
According to the United States legal system, Civil law and criminal law serve in different purposes. The primary motive of civil law is to resolve disputes and provide reimbursement for someone injured by someone else’s behavior or acts. The primary purpose of criminal law is to prohibit undesirable behavior and punish those who commit an act considered as undesirable by the society. Another key difference between civil and criminal law is the standards of proof required to stick out to a judgement.
Branches of Civil Law –
Four Main Branches of Civil law is connected with our daily life. They are – Contract law, Tort law, Property Law, Family Law.
Contract Law normally deals with agreements within two or more parties; each of which is constrained to hold up their portion of the agreement.
Tort law is a branch of Civil Law which is handling with personal injury as well as civil wrongdoing.
Property Law generally covers both personal property and real estate property.
Family law is also a part of civil law that deals with marriages, divorces, invalidation, child custody, adoption, birth, child support, and any other issues which is connected with families.
