Michael Staisil joined fellow Harvard alumni to participate in service projects in New York this April.

Michael Staisil is a proud Harvard Business School alumnus. The New York-based businessman reflects warmly on his time at the school, and credits Harvard Business School with giving him the skills he needed to become a successful entrepreneur. Now, he is active in alumni events, particularly community service events. This year, he took part in one of his favorite events with the Harvard Business School: the April 2013 Global Month of Service. Michael Staisil regularly volunteers throughout the year, but he always looks forward to working with fellow Harvard alumni from all of Harvard’s different schools at organized volunteer events.

Michael Staisil joins over 1,000 Harvard alumni who were part of the Global Month of Service. In New York, alumni joined forces for three large events to help Green Chimneys School and Children’s Services, Project Heal, and Sakshi NGO. These organizations were selected for their high-quality work, the scope of their services, and their consistency with the Harvard Business School’s values. At Green Chimneys School and Children’s Services in Putnam County, NY, alumni cleared and marked a trail to be used for hiking, team building, and nature lessons for the children at the school. At Project Heal, an organization that works to rehabilitate people with eating disorders who cannot afford treatment, the group provided in-kind consultation services to the organization. This event was a great fit for Michael’s skills in finance, strategic management, and capacity building. At the third large event, Harvard volunteers worked to fill several roles remotely at Sakshi NGO, which works to promote education, health, and community development in India.

During the April month of service, Harvard alumni also worked on several smaller volunteer projects as well. Michael Staisil says, “I had such a great time volunteering with Harvard alumni! I felt really inspired by all of the different people who came out to help. I always love to support a good cause and help wherever I can. Plus, I met a lot of great people, and saw some faces I hadn’t seen since my business school days.”
