Wedding Planner Weighs In: More Couples Are Requesting "Unplugged" Ceremonies

St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands - Couples marrying today are increasingly frustrated by the number of electronic devices distracting their guests during the ceremony--and showing up later in their wedding photos. One woman that recently got married with Weddings The Island Way on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands was eagerly anticipating her wedding photos, as any new bride would be. However, when they arrived, she was very disappointed to see that over half of them showed guests with cameras and smart phones, staring at the tiny screens.

A decade ago--even five years ago--this constant "plugged in" trend wasn't an issue. However, with all the devices like flip cams, smart phones, and iPads, it seems more people are finding their wedding photos filled with people staring at screens instead of engaging.

Erica Hebert of Weddings the Island Way has had several couples this year request "unplugged" ceremonies in their wedding invitations. Guests can bring devices--but are asked politely to turn them off and tuck them away until after the ceremony. "After hearing multiple brides mention getting back photos with people staring at their phones, I've started to mention it as a suggestion for new couples when they book island wedding packages."

Weddings the Island Way is celebrating their 25th anniversary year, and have seen many trends come and go in destination weddings. Their website, www.weddingstheislandway.com, features options for island weddings in the Virgin Islands, as well as frequently asked questions and pricing.
