Mayer M Flaks uses Portland, Oregon as a city to photograph in and around. He photographs large scenes and close shots of gardens and botanicals.

Always one to appreciate the beauty of fine art, Mayer M Flaks decided to try his own hand at landscape photography. Mayer M Flaks has long been a fan of landscape photography particularly the way the professionals capture beautiful images of rivers, mountains, and acres of blooming flowers. Now it is his career.

"I wanted to find place I too could capture the beautiful images I've seen for years. After some searching, it seemed Portland, Oregon was the perfect place to go," says Mayer M Flaks. Portland, Oregon has long drawn professional photographer because the close proximity the city has to Mount Hood, two rivers, and a natural waterfall. "Everything I wanted to practice capturing could be found around the city including photographs of city's skyline with Mount Hood resting in the background," says Mayer M Flaks.

Mayer M Flaks has taken photographs of the city skyline during the day and pictures of the city lights reflecting off the river at night. "The river acts as a near perfect mirror at night. Looking completely black with the black night sky, I was able to capture a beautiful band of light from the city buildings. It is a gorgeous contrast," says Mayer M Flaks. And it is the contrast of colors including light and dark that captures Mayer M Flaks’s artistic eye.

Mayer M Flaks also takes advantage of Portland's beautiful gardens to take some close botanical photographs. Recognized by many for being beautiful, Mayer M Flaks has visited Portland's Lan Su Chinese Garden and the Portland Japanese Garden; both require an admission fee. However, for flowers, photographers interested in botanical shots can take advantage of Portland's Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden and Oregon Portland Rose Garden. "It is the world's largest rose garden and is the perfect place to look for perfect rose blossoms. The only unfortunate thing is the picture cannot capture the garden's beautiful floral fragrance," says Mayer M Flaks.

Still practicing and perfecting his skills as a landscape photographer, Mayer M Flaks continues to practice with is camera's multiple settings. "There are so many options for cameras today. You really need to just sit and experiment with the different settings until you find what you like," says Mayer M Flaks.
