Dr Max Mongelli has published his new report regarding baseline fetal heart rate analysis in Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2016 IEEE 38th Annual International Conference. It is a great research presented by him in which he mentioned eleven automatic methods versus expert consensus.

According to him, “Visual analysis of fetal heart rate (FHR) during labor is subject to inter- and intra-observer variability that is particularly troublesome for anomalous recordings. Automatic FHR analysis has been proposed as a promising way to reduce this variability. The major difficulty with automatic analysis is to determine the baseline from which accelerations and decelerations will be detected."

He founded eleven methods for automatic FHR analysis and those eleven methods were reprogrammed using description from the literature and then they get applied to 66 FHR recordings collected during the first stage of delivery.

According to published report, a team of three experts researched about FHR baselines produced by the automatic methods and later they were compared with the baseline defined by their agreement. Mongelli described the better performance of the automatic methods and another Lu, Wrobel and Pardey was noted despite their different approaches on signal processing.

The interesting fact about this research is that there were several recordings, but none of the automatic studied methods produced a baseline similar to that defined by Dr Max Mongelli. He has contributed a lot in this report and this report gets successfully published.

About Dr. Max Mongelli

Dr Max Mongelli is known to have completed his clinical research training in United Kingdom. It was during this period that he developed interest in prenatal medicine along with foetal growth disorders. He is known the world over for the many papers as well as a book that he has headed on the field of obstetrics. There was a time when he used to practice as a full time specialist at the Nepean Hospital. However, at present he serves as an Honorary Associate of the University of Sydney.
