Buying insulin syringes may prove trickier than it once did. Unhealthy habits and inappropriate uses of needles have led to the development of regulations regarding purchases. While many states allow for syringe purchase sans prescription, some impose limits.

Restrictions come in the form of quantity and age. For instance, several states restrict a syringe purchase to ten or less without a prescription including Connecticut, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire. In Illinois, 20 syringes per customer are permitted. And, California allows consumers up to 30 syringes.

In Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New Jersey, you must be at least 18 years of age to purchase syringes. And, those under 16 may not buy insulin syringes in Virginia. Still, other states require proof of a diabetes diagnosis or a slew of answers to a host of questions before checking out.

These restrictions may prove annoying, frustrating and inconvenient to those people with a legitimate need. But, one, be aware that several means of purchasing syringes without limits still exist. And, two, it is important to keep in mind that the protection of the consumer remains the highest priority.
