Louisville, Kentucky –Louisville Salt Cave, a state-of-the-art creation that will help Kentuckians increase serotonin levels and relax, opens Tuesday, September 29, in Louisville’s East End.

Halotheraphy, derived from the Greek word “halo” which means “salt,” uses the negative ionizing effects of salt vapor to treat respiratory ailments and skin irritations, as well as mental and emotional ailments.

Kimberly Rash, a massage and aromatherapist, and Nicole Bartlett, a nutritional marketing professional, are the owners of Louisville Salt Cave.

“I have studied numerous ways to help the body heal naturally,” Rash said. “Throughout my years of serving clients, I have been looking for the next best thing for them. Then, I discovered how life-changing halotherapy would be for my clients. It was a no-brainer to open this cave as a result.”

After Rash discussed her dream of building a salt cave with Bartlett, they contacted Dr. Margaret Smiechowski, North America’s foremost expert on salt caves, to learn how to move forward with their concept. Smiechowski has extensive education and experience in both traditional and complementary medicine, and for more than two decades, she has taught others how to build salt caves and educate on the benefits of halotherapy.

“It is truly an honor and pleasure to help bring Kentucky, especially the residents of Louisville, their first salt cave for halotherapy,” said Smiechowski, who founded Salt Cave Inc. and served as a consultant on the project. “Halotherapy is not a new phenomenon. It has been around for decades, but it’s starting to catch on as people feel the extraordinary difference in their lives that just 45 minutes of this therapy will make.”

“A collective quieting of the mind has been shown to reduce violence,” Bartlett said. “This salt cave will help Louisville be more at ease on both a personal and community level.”

The Louisville Salt Cave was constructed using the Earth’s purest, unpolluted, pink Himalayan rock salt from the Himalayan Mountains. The salt is 250 million years old and contains more than 84 traceable minerals. Louisville Salt Cave also has a microclimate as a result of enclosing
15,000 pounds of salt crystals. A halogenerator diffuses microscopic salt particles in the room to produce anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties that have been shown to help decrease the symptoms of asthma, seasonal allergies, and many other diseases. Exposure to this amount of Himalayan rock salt has also been shown to improve symptoms for individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders.

Louisville Salt Cave is open year round at 9800 Shelbyville Road. One 45-minute session of halotherapy costs $35. For more information and to book online, visit www.louisvillesaltcave.com. Louisville Salt Cave is openTuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM, Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday, 12 PM to 4PM. Their phone number is 502-996-7000
