You can enjoy a pierogi and kielbasa Polish sausage in a restaurant but you can make them at home as well. A pierogi is a cheap and simple food item to make. While you can find pierogies in the grocery store you can easily make delicious ones at home.


Learning to make a pierogi is not that hard to master. You can find a variety of filling recipes online along with information about kielbasa Polish sausage. The dough is the more difficult part of the process of a pierogi recipe. It is the dough and its quality that is the key to the taste of the pierogi.

With the pierogi you can be very creative as there are endless possibilities that you can use. You can bake, fry or boil a pierogi. You can serve pierogies with dips. There are endless options as to what you will fill a pierogi with. You are only limited by your imagination. When making the pierogi dough you can change its flavor by using an egg yolk instead of water or milk. You can add food coloring from natural juices to add more flare to your pierogies. The fact that you can freeze pierogies allows you to make them well ahead of time and have them ready to serve. You don’t have to worry about their quality degradation due to freezing.

Basic pierogies are just filling and dough. You have to make the dough first. The dough is made from water, wheat flour, salt and oil. Once you have mixed up all the ingredients you knead the dough. Then you roll it out and use a drinking glass to cut out circles. You place the filling in the middle of the circle. A teaspoon of filling is all that is needed. The filling can consist of meat, vegetables, cheese, fruits or just about anything you want. You can be inventive or traditional when making a pierogi.

After you place the filling in the center or the pierogi you just fold it in half. This will for a semi circle. Seal the edges of the circle with a fork or just use your fingers. You can buy pierogi makers but they really are not necessary. Now your pierogi is ready to be cooked. Boiling in salt water is the traditional method of cooking. It only takes a few minutes. When the float to the top of the water they are ready to eat. Depending upon what you fill the pierogi with will dictate any accompaniments you will serve. Sauces can be yogurt, sweet cream, maple syrup, fruit sauce or just about anything. You can also enjoy it with kielbasa Polish sausage.

But you can also pan fry pierogies or even bake them in an oven. If you pan fry the pierogi use butter or oil. But it is better to not fry fruit pierogies or ones that have been frozen.
