Grinding and farming are free MMORPG specific activities where one has to repeat the same action hundreds or even thousands of times in order to get certain rewards. Although it is considered a boring activity, the rewards make it worth and, most of the times, the hardest achievements come after hours and hours of farming. MMORPGs are by definition repetitive games. Except the main quest lines which sometimes require players to view a cinematic or interact with the game environment in a different way, all secondary quests have the same mechanics (kill mobs or gather items). Players sometimes complain about the quest linearity but the truth is that is part of MMORPG mechanics. They are designed for millions of players and it’s impossible to create different content for each player, if one is craving for a truly unique non linear questing experience then a single player game might be a better choice than a free online RPG.

In an offline game, questing and leveling are a big part of the game, high level characters are super powerful and they are ready to complete the final challenges and finish the game. Most of the content in free MMORPG is designed for players that already reached level cap but being max level doesn’t necessarily means that one is ready to take on the most powerful bosses. It’s often said that the true gaming experience in free online RPG starts at max level, there are lots of features that unlock or become fully available only for max level players. To be able to experience the most challenging end game PvE or PvP content, players need gear and in depth knowledge of their class. Because some talents unlock at max level, play style is totally different at end game, players need to learn how to use their new acquired spells.

Free MMORPG are meant to be played with other people and one of their greatest features is social interaction. This is what makes an online game fun and it also makes grinding or farming bearable and easier. Gearing up is a systematic process in a free online RPG. The best equipment is not bought, it’s earned by completing different types of challenges (dungeons, raids, events, etc.). This is also a good way for players to practice their spells rotation and fighting technique for different encounters. When players have good gear to start raiding and they are confident in their skills then the true challenge begins: taking down raid bosses.

Being part of a guild is one of the things that can make or break one’s gaming experience, because there are many types of players there are also different types of guilds. There are mainly 2 categories of free MMORPG players: hardcore players and casual players. A hardcore guild has specific recruiting rules: players need to have good gear, they must demonstrate they have the skills to play their class, they must attend all guild raids or PvP events, hardcore guilds usually raid 3 or 4 times a week. Casuals prefer a more relaxed play style and there are no special requirements for joining a casual (social) guild. In most cases players just need to be friendly and willing to help their guildies, attendance to guild events is not mandatory. When looking for a guild, make sure to check the forums, all free online RPG have special forum sections for guild ads and info.
