Most people use available transportation instead of walking or cycling, no matter how far or near the distance is.Indians among world’s laziest, take just 4,297 steps a day; Chinese the least lazy people on earth.

A global study based on daily steps by Stanford University has revealed that India ranks 39 among 46 nations with people taking just 4,297 steps a day. As for women in India, they take far more fewer steps than men registering barely 3,684 steps compared to 4,606 taken by men.
The least lazy are Chinese, particularly those in Hong Kong, where people averaged 6,880 steps a day. The worst nation was Indonesia, where people walked nearly half as much, averaging 3,513 steps a day.
The worldwide average is 4,961 steps, with Americans walking an average 4,774 steps. The top half of the chart includes Hong Kong, China, Ukraine and Japan walking over 6,000 steps daily while the countries at the bottom of the rung include Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia who walk less than 3,900 steps. With dependence on technology for the tiniest of things this validation of the study is unquestionable.
The study used an app called the Argus app equipped with tiny sensors called the accelerometers which can automatically record your daily motions. The data has been provided by a thousand anonymous users who only provided key demographic indicators: gender, age, weight and height. Stanford researchers say in countries with less obesity, people typically walked a similar amount every day. In nations with higher rates of obesity, there were larger gaps between those who walked a lot and those who walked very little. India, thus, needs to think about the pot holes in its pavements, which deters the pedestrians from walking, taking vehicles for going less than a kilometers.
