When you and your brand-new husband enter your wedding reception, it's the first time you'll be introduced as husband and wife. Pretty exciting, right?! Not to mention, your guests will be cheering you on as they get a good look at you as newlyweds, exuberantly joining the party.

Some seasons I work with very precise, architectural silhouettes, but other seasons, I’m more interested in an overall sensibility. For my Fall 2014 collection, I designed everything to encompass a spirit of youthfulness and innocence. I wanted all the gowns in this collection to reflect a very playful, girly feeling, and no gown is a better representation of that sentiment than Naya.

I envisioned Naya as the sister gown to Nolita—both have such finely draped tulle at the heart of the gown that gives way to a romantic burst of rose petals. But while Nolita has a more mature, sexy mermaid silhouette, Naya is for that exuberant ball gown girl.

Naya’s ever-so-slightly dropped bodice has such a luxurious texture, with precision-point draped tulle that criss-crosses in multiple directions—it’s almost a basketweave effect. The draping is all done by hand, which makes it feel particularly delicate. And there’s also a hint of the coquettish, with the exposed corset boning in the back. I love the understated sexiness that an unexpected reveal like that gives the dress!

The showstopping moment of the dress, of course, is the gathered bloom on the side of the gown. This abstract rose blossom creates a very unusual, striking type of peplum. It’s all done in soft, bias-cut tiers of tissue organza. Paired with the really simple, clean ball gown skirt of layered tulle and tissue organza, the effect is very dream-like.
